The Light of Awareness
“What do you value most in life?”,
“What is most important to you?”,
“What would you miss the most if it was taken away?”
Most of us rarely ask these questions unless faced with the loss of a loved one, a serious medical diagnosis or other life-altering event.
As with all deep inquiries, the answers are personal. When I have posed these questions in the past, some answered: God, others their family, partner, or children. For some, it was music, joy, beauty, food, or peace of mind.
Without suggesting there is a single right answer, I shared my perspective:
It is awareness, or what I like to call “the light of awareness.”
Without this remarkable gift, none of the other things could be known to us.
Without the ability “to know and know that we know” (Feldenkrais’ definition of awareness), we might be conscious enough to experience reactions like fear, pain, and basic feelings (this is consciousness), but we would lack the capacity for self-reflective awareness.
Is there anything more important for awakening human beings who are learning to: move beyond old, unhelpful habit patterns, to love beyond our fear, and to take care of our neighbors than growing this light of awareness?
All of “The Embodied Life” seminars, with varying emphases, center on awakening this awareness. This path moves us toward manifesting our true human potential as creative, caring, grateful and joyful human beings.
As cells of a greater body, we each have a unique gift to bring.
